An employee in a Louth care home has admitted stealing more than £5,000 from an 85-year-old woman in her care.

Karen Whattam, 44, of Woburn Close, Louth, admitted stealing £5,275 from the woman, Marcia Redfearn, who was a resident at The Beeches residential home in South Street, when she appeared at Skegness Magistrates Court.

It was said that she had been entrusted with Mrs Redfearn’s debit card to buy her cigarettes but she used it for her own personal use over a four month period between April and August this year.

The magistrates decided that their powers were insufficient to deal with Whattam and remanded her on unconditional bail to appear at Lincoln Crown Court for sentence on a date to be arranged.
