A SWIMMING pool, entertainment venue and new jobs are among the top suggestions for a £1 million grant which is now hunting for local people to get on board.
The Big Local project, an arm of the National Lottery, is giving Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea the cash to be used to improve the area over the next ten years. A research project was held last summer sought to find people’s priorities, with locals taking part via the ‘cabcam’, the internet, handwritten forms, Facebook and Twitter.
A total of 37 per cent of over 1,000 people said sport and leisure were their top priorities for investment, other suggestions included crime prevention, improving the look of the area and superfast broadband, as well as children’s services and dog mess clean-ups.
A swimming pool has long been top of many local people’s wish lists, with a number of campaigns being launched over the years.
Just last year, a campaign started by local man Pete Spybey attracted hundreds of people to an online Facebook group and rekindled demands for a swimming pool in Mablethorpe.
The Big Local Steering Group, run from the Boatshed in Mablethorpe, are now looking for local people to get on board and ultimately decide where the cash will be spent.
The hunt is on for at least nine members of the public to sit on the panel to decide exactly how money is allocated. Applicants must live or work in the area.
Anyone interested can call Steve Hinsley at the Boatshed on 0800 0665562 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
