Council votes to replace ‘If’ memorial

THE Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council have unanimously voted to lobby for the ‘If’ memorial in Sandilands to be replaced.

The memorial, denoting Rudyard Kipling’s famous poem, was removed from the junction of Rudyard Close and Kipling Drive earlier this year by Lincolnshire County Council due to concerns over its stability.

The town council agreed at Monday’s Community Amenities Meeting that they will now lobby to the county council to have the memorial replaced in its original location.

Town Clerk Jen Cooper advised the council at June’s Community Amenities meeting that it was likely that they would have to cover the cost of the re-siting of the memorial.

l The council also saw presentations on three security initiatives to protect the Sandilands beach huts.
