A Facebook romance ended after a 41-year-old Derbyshire man assaulted his girlfriend in Mablethorpe.

Andrew Minor, of Glossop, admitted assaulting Elise Hardy by beating at Marian Avenue, Mablethorpe, on September 1.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said they started a new relationship in January 2012 after reconnecting on Facebook.

Ms Stace said on August 31, Ms Hardy finished work at 4.30pm, but when she got home Minor was drinking and when they went out at 8.15pm he was drunk.

When her friends went to bed, leaving Minor and Ms Hardy, he suddenly ‘flipped’, demanded her house keys, knocked her to the floor and kicked her.

He sat on her, got up and punched her several times.

After his arrest, he told officers he got in an argument and was ‘very sorry’. He’s been taking medication for depression.

Minor has no previous convictions. In defence, Dave Clapham said Minor alleged Ms Hardy kept picking at him until he lost his temper and assaulted her, although he denied kicking her. He said Minor was receiving psychiatric treatment.

Minor will be sentenced at Buxton Magistrates’ Court on October 9.
