‘Government’ phone scam

FRAUDSTERS claiming to be from national government bodies are trying to con people out of money, Lincolnshire Trading Standards warns.

The watchdog has received scores of complaints from people who have been contacted by phoney officials from the Ministry of Justice and the Office of Fair Trading.

The people have been contacted by phone and told that they are owed large amounts of money by the government.

To release the funds, the unsuspecting victim is asked to carry out some instructions, usually involving paying an upfront fee.

Lincolnshire Trading Standards is asking people to ignore the imposters and warning against transferring money in the hope of getting more back.
