Police advice on oil tank attacks

POLICE are urging people to be vigilant against thieves targeting heating oil from homes.

Last winter Lincolnshire suffered heavily with this problem and the Police are keen to reduce the number of cases this year.

They advise that tanks are sited in view of windows and away from roads, paths or driveways.

Switches controlling the flow of oil should be turned off and the electricity supply isolated when the tank is not in use.

Use close shackle padlocks as they offer the best resistance to bolt croppers and consider purchasing a remote oil level gauge which will sound an alarm if the tank level suddenly drops.
