THE 68th anniversary of D-day was celebrated by veterans and residents in Mablethorpe on Wednesday, June 6.

This year’s event was a particularly special one as Standard Bearer Dion Payne was to carry the flag for the last time after eight years in the role due to ill health.

The new Standard Bearer for such events will now be George Prideaux of Trusthorpe, who is attending training in Louth on Sunday for the role.

Around 30 people saw the service given by Canon Chris Lilley of Sutton on Sea, before returning at sunset to lower the flag.

All then went back to Coxswain’s Cabin in Mablethorpe for a remembrance meal.
