After a year in office, outgoing Chairman of ELDC, Councillor Robert Palmer, has handed over the chains of office to Councillor Stan Avison.

When Coun Palmer was elected as Chairman last year, his aim was to raise funds for the Urology Department at Louth Hospital as they had been responsible for saving his life 11 years earlier.

He had been given just a 20 per cent chance of survival following a diagnosis of cancer.

In August, Coun Palmer fulfilled his pledge and bravely jumped 15,000ft out of a plane at Hibaldstow airfield, bringing back memories for him of his time in the army.

He organised a Charity Dinner and raffle at Kenwick Park Hotel, Louth on March 13 this year and altogether he has managed to raise £800 for presentation to the Urology Department.

As a long-standing District Councillor for the Marshchapel and Somercotes Ward, Coun Palmer will continue to represent residents and the local community following his re-election on May 7.

Coun Stan Avison was elected as Chairman for 2015/16 at the East Lindsey District Council meeting on May 20, and his charity will be the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance.

His plans are to hold a Civic Service, an indoor bowls tournament, and a sausage ‘n’ mash supper with a quiz night to raise funds.

The Council’s Vice Chairman is Coun Stuart Watson.
