Pupils join choir of 5,000 in arena gig

A group of Spilsby schoolchildren can count themselves among the musical elite after performing at Sheffield Arena.

Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Beyoncé have all sung at the 13,500-capacity venue and now, thanks to a national schools choir project, so have 33 youngsters from Spilsby Primary School.

The group from the Woodlands Avenue school travelled to the arena last month as part of the Young Voices initiative.

This sees schoolchildren from across the country practise specified music in class to prepare for a concert where they perform in a choir of between 4,500 and 8,500 children, accompanied by a wide range of musicians and artists.

The aim is to inspire the next generation to find a love for music.

The pupils from Spilsby Primary School had been rehearsing since September and last month joined a choir 5,000 voices strong.

A spokesman for the school said: “We all agree that it was one of the best things we have ever been involved in.

“Thank you to all the children for their incredible hard work and dedication, and to all the parents who supported us either through practising with their children at home or coming to the performance in person.”
