The numbers are adding up for pupils and staff at St Margaret’s Church of England Primary in Withern after the school was nominated for a national maths award.

The school is up for the Numeracy and Maths gong at the forthcoming Times Educational Supplement (TES) awards in London and received a letter from Schools Minister David Laws MP congratulating them on their ‘excellent performance’ in the subject.

“As a school we have placed great emphasis on mental calculation and problem solving, and this has made pupils able to achieve very highly,” said school head James Siddle.

“We are very proud to have been nominated, what makes it even more special is that we are not just competing against primary school but secondary schools and colleges.”
