EIGHT brave men took on the Man vs Food challenge at Smokey Joe’s diner in Louth, with just one walking away with victory.
The TV-inspired event saw each contestant given an hour to finish the monster meal which included a huge 2lb burger with cheese, bacon, chilli, salad and a double helping of fries.
All but one fell by the wayside along the way before Ryan Mendham of Louth emerged victorious after 45 minutes, and he was rewarded by getting his meal for free.
Owner of Smokey Joe’s in Eastgate, Wendy Johnson, said: “They’re all young lads and they came in a bit too confident.
“I think some of them were a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of food, one was even sick.
“Our portions are already quite big, and none of them wanted to be beaten by a burger. They all did very well.
“Everyone enjoyed the night and it was great as a one-off event.”
The £15.99 meal has been part of the menu for some time but Wendy was keen to get a group together for the challenge last Thursday.
The burger will now be renamed the Shury burger after Grimsby resident Adam Shury who was the first ever person to complete the meal last week at the second attempt.
Smokey Joe’s diner now has a Man vs Food winners and losers wall where Ryan’s picture proudly sits.
