East Lindsey District Council is reminding residents that they must declare any changes in circumstances that could affect the amount of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support they are entitled to, as part of its new ‘Tell Us’ campaign.

Details on what changes residents should tell the Council about can be found at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk/tellus. These changes include changes in earnings, other income, bank accounts and child care paid as well as changes in other benefits and when a child leaves school.

To inform the Council about changes, call 01507 329199 between 8.45am and 5pm, from Monday to Friday.

It is an offence not to declare changes in circumstances that could affect the amount of benefit paid to you. Anyone found to be in receipt of benefit that they are not entitled will have to pay back the overpayment and could face court action or financial penalties.

Director of Finance, Rob Barlow, said: “Keeping the Council informed of these changes will ensure that you are in receipt of the correct amount of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.

“Changes can mean the amount to you could go down, or up, and we need to have the most up to date information to ensure we calculate the amount owed to you correctly.”

ELDC actively works with other organisations to detect those who are incorrectly claiming Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support.
