Louth flood alleviation scheme is a a step closer

WORK on the much needed flood storage reservoir to stop Louth being flooded is one step closer.

National Grant in Aid funding towards the scheme in 2012/13 has been confirmed by the Environment Agency Board, with further allocations earmarked over the following two years.

Ian Russell, of the Environment Agency, said: “Consultants are completing the necessary business case and undertaking surveys and site investigation works. Construction is expected to start in 2014 and be completed in 2015.”

The project to create a storage reservoir outside the town will ‘significantly reduce the risk of flooding from rivers as experienced in 2007’, say the Environment Agency.

The work is being supported financially by the EA, Lincolnshire County Council, East Lindsey District Council, Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board and the Witham 3rd Drainage Board. The agency said Louth Town Council has agreed in principle to fund future maintenance.
