A very unique bond has been made between a chihuahua and a baby meerkat after they formed a special relationship as mother and son.
Male meerkat Wilson is just five weeks old and you can fit him in the palm of your hand.
The peculiar relationship between Wilson and his chihuahua mother Kimi began when a meerkat at Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary gave birth to four beautiful baby meerkats.
But a sense of tragedy soon hit this tale after one meerkat died and only two out of the three meerkats remaining bonded with the mother, leaving Wilson rejected from the rest of the brood.
Seeing Wilson all alone got employee at the Seal Sanctuary, Leanne Clark thinking.
Her pet chihuahua Kimi has never had puppies before, but by chance was going through a phantom pregnancy at the same time Wilson had been rejected from its mother.
Leanne then took Wilson home to find out if Kimi would take on a mothering role and bond with Wilson.
As luck would have it, Kimi’s maternal instinct kicked in and she immediately connected with Wilson.
Leanne explained: “Kimi has always wanted to become a mum and took to Wilson right from the very start.
“As far as Kimi is concerned, Wilson is her baby.
“They are inseparable, Kimi is very protective of Wilson and are very hard to separate.”
Leanne added: “It was only by pot luck that the two of them bonded so well together and the pair of them do everything together, if Kimi runs off somewhere, you can guarantee that Wilson is not far behind.
“The relationship is truly remarkable, you have to see it to believe it.”
