A 25-year-old man who grew up in Saltfleet has been named as one of the 30 most influential young people in the fashion industry today.
Thom Scherdel, a former pupil at King Edward VI Grammar School in Louth, was selected from thousands of entries across the buying, merchandising, design, retail and e-tail sectors to be included in the final top 30 list, which was revealed by fashion business magazine Drapers earlier this month.
Thom’s journey began when he was just 17 years old, when he moved from his Lincolnshire home down to London at very short notice, to embark on a course at the Fashion Retail Academy - which he passed with distinction in 2007.
Thom went straight into work at Selfridges, and was later poached by Topman and became an assistant buyer.
He is now a buyer at The Idle Man, after being offered the exciting new role last summer.
Thom said: “When I find out I’d won the award it was amazing. To be recognised in such a competitive industry is always a good feeling.”
