Drivers could benefit from half price petrol by sharing their car journey to work for National Liftshare Week.
Commuters who drive alone to and from work could halve their petrol costs to 69p per litre, just by sharing with one other person. And the typical commuter travelling five miles to work every day, saves an average of £1,000 per year if car sharing.
Commuters are being encouraged to speak to colleagues who may live nearby, or search online for someone who completes a similar journey during Liftshare Week this week, Monday, October 7 – Friday, October 11, 2013.
Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways and transportation at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Liftshare Week is all about giving car sharing a go.
“Sharing your journey to work can save you money and time, as well as making commuter trips less stressful and sociable.
“We’re confident that if more people car share, it won’t only be better for the environment, there will be less cars on the road and less traffic congestion.”
You don’t even have to drive to become a car sharer – there are plenty of people out there willing to share their journey for a contribution towards the running costs and some friendly company.
