A North Somercotes woman overcame multiple sclerosis to become her slimming group’s ‘Greatest Loser’ after shedding nearly two stones.

Melanie Benzon only joined Tracey Paine’s Slimming World group in the village in October last year but has so far lost one stone and nine-and-a-half lbs thanks to a healthier diet.

“I had been finding it hard to walk as I have a loss of feeling on my left side, but I walk so much easier now,” Melanie explained.

“I have more energy and less pain and I am enjoying the new experience of wearing clothes that are three sizes smaller than they were last year.”

The super slimmer in Tracey’s earlier 5.30pm Wednesday group was Lynda Dobson, school head at Birkbeck College.

She lost an amazing four stones and 13 lbs and said the Greatest Loser title will help ‘spur’ her on to lose more weight.

“Losing weight is never an easy task but the load is lightened by the help of others and I have been lucky to work with a number of supportive friends,” said Lynda.

Since October the two groups have lost a massive 1,536 lbs which equates to over 109 stones.

Tracey’s groups meet at 5.30pm and 7.30pm in the North Somercotes Primary School hall.
