Horncastle made its mark during the 800th anniversary celebrations of the Magna Carta thanks to two Stanhope Hall members.

Rose Williams and Bill Aron attended a seminar back in March where people were invited to attend a workshop that was open to people throughout the county. It was organised jointly by Lincolnshire County Council and the Co-op to create local flags as part of the celebrations.

The duo gave artists Jason Wilsher-Mills and Chris Searson ideas, who then went away and created flags for those who had put their towns forward. Rose and Bill went to Lincoln Castle to parade Horncastle’s flag through the castle grounds up on to the battlements, watched by thousands of people.

Rose said: “The flags created a lot of interest from the crowds and I was proud to be part of the Magna Carta celebrations, having also been lucky to have won a ticket to the official opening of the castle by Princess Anne.”

Bill added: “We were pleased to be representing Horncastle on such an occasion and there will be chance to see the flag at the Lincolnshire Show.”
