Kids Patch, run by Home-Start, is a gardening project aimed at families with young children, with the objective of getting parents and their children involved in growing fruit and vegetables, while also encouraging them to spend time outdoors.

Each free session, which takes place on Tuesdays between 10am-12 noon and includes refreshments, provides an opportunity for families to get together and learn some new skills.

Home-Start took the opportunity to celebrate “Apple Day” at one of their sessions in October. The children helped to make their own apple juice; parents chopped the apples, while the children crushed them with wooden mallets and put them into the juicer. The children also took part in a competition to produce the longest apple peel - the longest was over 1.5 metres long!

• Home-Start is a local family support charity that also offers support to parents going through difficulties. If you need support, or feel you might be able to volunteer, then call 01507 52 22 00.
