More parking enforcement need to combat bad parking

EDITOR – Despite enraged residents and shopkeepers, parking enforcement is essential to curb the stupidity of inconsiderate motorists and to enforce the law.

On Wednesday, May 2 at approximately 1.45pm a large van was parked outside the Scope shop in Eastgate. The driver of this vehicle was guilty of three offences:

l It is an offence to park a vehicle’s wheels on a footpath.

l It is an offence to park within the limits, zigzags, of a pedestrian crossing (this includes taxis dropping off or picking up a fare).

l It is an offence to cause an obstruction which meant a bus had to mount the footpath outside Eve & Ranshaws in order to pass the illegally-parked vehicle.

The details of the vehicle are available to anyone who is interested.
