POEM: Wardens are green and keen
Well it’s happened, the invaders are here...
...They’ve come at last, the traffic to clear,
Smartly dressed like jolly green giants,
Machines at the ready enforcing science.
It could be so nice to walk the streets,
With no pipping horns us to greet,
But please let’s hope they have common sense,
When they ticket, at our expense.
Seems a lifetime since the green cross code,
Now a new regime will explode,
Where there were cars and many people?
Could all that’s left be St James’s steeple?
Could there be rows of empty shops,
When the drivers find there’s nowhere to stop,
Better act now before it’s to late,
Draw up the plans and pedestrian ate.
