EDITOR – I would like to draw your readers’ attention to an unfair tax on a charity.
Apparently, unlike the RNLI, the air ambulance charities across the UK do not get VAT relief on the fuel they use. Twin engined turbine aircraft use an awful lot of the stuff; even at five per cent reduced rate it is a significant sum annually that every one of these charities has to raise.
There is an e-petition running which has already reached 14,000 signatures; if we can get this to 100,000 then it has to be debated in Parliament.
