Lincolnshire MP jokes about '˜rumours' he's been made newspaper editor

Sir Edward Leigh MP has today (Tuesday) joked on social media that '˜rumours' of him becoming editor of two local newspapers are untrue - in what appears to be a comical swipe at his party colleague George Osborne MP.

Sir Edward (Cons, Gainsborough) made the comment on Twitter this morning in a thinly veiled swipe at the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, who has recently been criticised for taking on the job as the Editor of the London Evening Standard last week - while choosing to remain sitting as a Member of Parliament.

Sir Edward’s tweet this morning read: “Rumours that I’m to be made editor of @GainsStandard (Gainsborough Standard) or @RasenMail (Market Rasen Mail) are untrue. The responsibilities of such a job are too onerous for an MP.”

In a follow-up tweet, Sir Edward said: “People pay good money for these papers, and rightly so.

“Unlike a certain London free sheet that comes to mind.”
