£1,000 boost for Louth Art Trail thanks to grant scheme

The Louth Art Trail has received £1,000 to enable it to be extended, allowing more local artists than ever to take part.

The timely boost comes from East Lindsey District Council’s Rural Development Grant which will see £1.5 million in grants pumped into the local economy.

The aim is to support organisations and business in delivering projects that will provide a boost to the local economy by raising the profile of the area, creating employment or helping the community to improve their skills.

Louth Arts Trail has successfully applied for £1,000 from the district council to organise and deliver the Louth Art Trail this year.

The trail was launched in 2012 and leads throughout the town focusing on Louth historical and cultural heritage.

The grant will also enable the trail to be extended, allowing more local artists to take part.

Last year’s trail attracted over 1,360 visitors to Louth.

Roger Goldsmith, from Spout Yard Management Trust who applied for the funding, said: “Spout Yard Gallery initiated the Louth Art Trail in 2012 attracting over a thousand visitors to the galleries on a very low budget.

“The grant support from ELDC will help promote the second Louth Art Trail in 2013, hopefully making it into an annual event putting `Louth and Art` together as a Lincolnshire Tourist Attraction.”

Portfolio holder for economic regeneration at East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Craig Leyland, said: “The money that has been awarded to the Louth Art Trail will help to raise the profile of Louth and attract visitors to the town.

“I wish the project team every success in their ambition to extend the trail and involve more artists and in doing so providing a boost to the local economy.”
