£100,000 work to help stop flooding in Tetney

Almost £100,000 is being spent on a flood alleviation scheme to reduce the risk of ‘devastating’ flooding in one area of Tetney.

In partnership with Lincolnshire County Council, East Lindsey District Council has been granted £80,000 in government funding to carry out a programme of drainage works at the Lanes in the village.

In addition to the national funding both the county council and district council have also contributed £8,000 each towards the works.

The scheme, which is being managed by the district council, will reduce the risk of flooding for 14 houses, all of which were severely affected by flooding throughout autumn.

The works began on Monday and will last for four weeks. The scheme will see the installation of a new larger surface water system, as well as the installation of new road gullies and extra gullies.

The Lanes and North End Crescent will be closed while the work is carried out but this will be done in stages to ensure there is minimal disruption for the community.

Portfolio holder for the environment at East Lindsey District Council and ward councillor for Tetney, Coun Tony Bridges, said: “Flood waters have caused devastation in this part of Tetney for a number of years, turning people’s lives on their head by uprooting them from their homes.

“This scheme is so important for those with property in the affected area and I’m delighted the funding package has been secured by the district council and that work can commence.”
