Mablethorpe resident Ada Wrightson has been recognised with a Certificate of Special Service, awarded by the Royal School of Church Music.
Ada, who will be 92 this year, has been an organist and choir leader for over 60 years and provides her gifted talents to the congregation at St Mary’s Church in Mablethorpe.
Canon Andrew Ballard, representing the RSCM came down specially to present Ada with her award, given to those for their outstanding services to music.
Surrounded by her congregation, family and friends at a special service held on Sunday, Ada was overwhelmed to have been nominated for the award.
During her speech, she thanked her nearest and dearest for their support and especially the choir she has been leading all these years.
Ada commented how she ‘enjoys every minute’ of what she does.
Ada has been musically gifted from the beginning, having received her first instruction on the organ from her father.
Ada and her family moved to Mablethorpe in 1961, where she began to give lessons and continues to do so.
Her pupils are a credit to the work she does as many of them have attained merit and distinction marks in their associated board of the Royal School of Music examinations.
Shortly after moving to Mablethorpe, she joined St Mary’s choir and then took over the post of church organist and choir leader when the position became vacant as many of her pupils joined the choir.
Her dedication and enthusiasm has developed the choir, both musically and socially.
Ada has supported her husband Bernard over the years and is an ordained priest who performs services at St Mary’s accompanied by Ada.
Her love of music and the musical contribution and commitment to St Mary’s has been a major part of her life.
Not only has Ada played for services, weddings, funeral, christenings and confirmations, but has also arranged concerts to include her choir and pupils to help raise funds to for the church’s upkeep and organ maintenance.
Ada is a first class musician and is very respected by all who know her.
