Shaun Davies,25, of Willoughby Road, admitted possessing an offensive weapon and two charges of threatening behaviour, when he appeared before magistrates at Skegness last Tuesday (August 9).

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said on July 21, Davies had been drinking in a local pub when he was accused of stealing a phone belonging to Yasmin Prince, as a result of which he had felt aggrieved.

She said that when Davies saw Ms Prince later in a park in Farlesthorpe Road, he threatened her with a garden hoe, saying: “I’m going to kill you. You know what I’m like.”

He swung the hoe towards her but Ms Prince ran away and she saw him drop the hoe and sit down on the roadside kerb, crying.

Ms Stace told the court that Davies had already approached Ben Needham, who had also been in the pub, and threatened him with the hoe, saying: “I’m going to smash your head and family in.”

Davies told police he had been told that some people were going to hit him so when he left the pub, he had gone home to get the hoe.

Mitigating, Beris Brickles said that Davies was a ‘young lad out drinking heavily with other young people.’

He said Davies had resented being accused of stealing the phone and was upset.

When he saw the Mr Needham and Ms Prince later drinking in the park, there was some pushing and he had gone home and got the garden hoe and threatened them.

Mr Brickles said Davies was ‘heavily in drink’ and had alcohol and drug issues.

Magistrates adjourned the case for sentence on August 30 and ordered a report from the Probation Service.
