A 14-year-old Louth girl set up an ‘alternative prom’ night for young people in the town last week, which was enjoyed by more than 40 people.

Bethany Smith set up the event, which allowed local teenagers to enjoy a fun night at a low price at the Park Avenue Youth Centre, and her mum provided refreshments for the evening.

Almost £80 was raised on the night, which will go towards the running of the 13+ project.

Youth and Community Development worker, Brenda Maltby, thanked Bethany for organising the event and said: “All the young people who attended made the greatest of effort.

“It was completely Bethany’s idea, to provide something for all, where the guests could wear what they like and enjoy the night for just £2.50.”
