Big membership increase for cafe initiative in Louth

On May 16, the East Lindsey Area Dementia Action Alliance hosted an afternoon tea party and information event, to celebrate the growing popularity of its dementia café and to encourage others to join.

The café has been operating in Louth on a weekly basis and has seen the number of members increase from just 12 to 91 within that time. Some travel from as far as Binbrook, Saltfleet and Mablethorpe.

Guests at the party, held at the Trinity Centre, were treated to refreshments and enjoyed live music, with songs from the 1950s and 1960s, which helped to spark fond memories.

Jayne Pegg, project administrator for the Trinity Centre, said: “Until we started running the dementia café, there were no initiatives of this kind in Louth and the surrounding area specifically.

“We not only welcome those affected by and living with dementia, but also provide a support network for people who have lost their relatives or spouses to the disease.”
