Pro-supermarket campaign group Move Louth Forward has welcomed the decision to sell the Louth Cattle Market to make way for an Asda supermarket.
The group emerged on Facebook in March this year, and gathered 1,000 members within just one week.
Spokesperson Jason Garrett said: “Move Louth Forward would like to praise the decision made by ELDC on Wednesday.
“It was not an easy decision and it was clear that many councillors were torn on how to vote. But they used all the information that they were presented with and made an informed decision.
“We hope that Louth Town Council will now listen to our calls for greater supermarket provision in Louth and not pursue a judicial review, which would ultimately cost the taxpayer greatly whichever way the decision went.
“It is now time to focus on the planning and shape the application to suit the needs of our town and hopefully guide a Section 106 plan to regenerate the town centre and try and boost our local shops and market.
“We would also like to see the new cattle market optimised to its full potential and well publicised, so that once again, Louth can be known as a great market town.”
