A team of four Cordeaux Academy pupils travelled to Slovakia earlier this month to tackle a number of environmental issues and are aiming to make a difference.

Year 9 pupils George Walker, Adam Snell, Dexter Vickers and Isaac Kirk along with teachers, Mr Bowman, Miss Lobley and Miss Sjolund met with the Slovakian Secretary of State for the Environment when they learned about what the Slovakian government is doing for the environment.

The group also planted trees and visited the Kosit recycling plant in Kosice to see the work that was done there.

The trip also enabled the group to learn about Slovakian life as they stayed with host families and shared some school lessons.

The students and staff had some excursions visiting Betlair (a stately home), Jasovska Cave and Kosice Botanical Gardens, and also managed to cram in some sight-seeing and shopping in Kosice.

The group have been working in partnership with students from the host school in Slovakia together with groups from a German school and an Italian school.

Cordeaux look forward to students from these schools visiting in late September.
