Countryside Alliance welcome more affordable homes
THE Countryside Alliance has welcomed the government announcement of £300m new funding to build up to 15,000 affordable homes and bring 5,000 empty ones back into use.
The alliance says it has long called for the building of more affordable housing so that local people and key workers can afford to live in rural areas.
Countryside Alliance Executive Chairman Barney White-Spunner said: “There is a real need for more affordable housing in our countryside. Extra funding to build more affordable homes and help rural families is very welcome.
“But local communities must be engaged in shaping the areas they live in and we urge the Government to ensure that they are.”
