A cyclist who suffered serious head injuries when he fell from his bike at North Willingham has died in hospital.

Christian Raymond Brown, aged 40, of Grayingham Road, Kirton Lindsey, had to be airlifted to hospital after the crash which happened on the A631 near Ash Grove Farm in North Willingham, between Louth and Market Rasen.

The crash happened at about 10.50am on Tuesday, February 12.

However Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that Mr Brown sadly died on Monday night, February 18, at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing, but Lincolnshire Police say a pothole may have been the cause.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “Investigations are ongoing but clearly there is an issue surrounding a pothole in the road being a potential cause of the crash.”

The man had been riding with a group of other cyclists when the crash happened.

Public roads are maintained by the highways department at Lincolnshire County Council - it has a statutory duty to maintain and repair the highway so it is safe for traffic.

Since the crash, Lincolnshire County Council has been made aware of the pothole in question and has filled it in.

Speaking before the man’s death, head of highways Alan Aistrup said: “Our records show that we have had no reports of potholes in that location, and the general condition of the A631 in this locality is very good.

“However, this is an ongoing investigation by Lincolnshire Police and we will continue to work closely with them to assist their enquiries.”

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the incident or the cyclists prior to the crash.
