Pupils at Cordeaux Academy in Louth are getting to grips with a new reward system that highlights their success.

This academic year has seen the introduction of a new reward system called E-praise and students are able to earn merits in a variety of ways, including good work, positive contributions to school life and for a week’s full attendance and these are then logged on to an interactive system.

Each merit is worth 10p and students can spend them in a variety of ways. Vouchers can be bought for local shops like Gobstoppers, New Look, and Cojos in addition to iTunes vouchers.

Merits can be traded in for a lunch pass or saved for money off activities week trips or even the school prom.

Philanthropically-minded students are able to donate their merits to a variety of charities - to date more than £130 has been given in this way.

Students can access E-praise at school and at home to view their personal totals, their tutor group total and the leader-boards.

A significant number of students have accessed the system at home.

At a recent achievement assembly certificates were awarded to more than 40 students. Bethany Leak achieved the bronze award for 50 merits and the silver award for 75 merits. A further 31 students achieved the bronze award.

In addition, certificates were awarded to a number of students from each year group for the highest donations to charity. Leading donors were Tom Watson in KS3 and Ryan Archer at KS4.

E-praise is designed to encourage the development of life skills by emphasising the link between hard work, good attitude and attendance and reward and it enables the students to choose how they want to spend the reward. Students have embraced the system enthusiastically and there is keen competition between individuals and tutor groups!
