East Barkwith gardeners
A BUFFET supper with a selection of cheeses, pates, breads and biscuits had been prepared by the committee members for the Barkwith and District Gardeners Annual Social evening and there was entertainment too.
Les Robinson provided a lighter touch and laughter with a session of jokes and he had also arranged two quizzes to keep visitors happily occupied while Sheila Minns took to the stage to recite a poem in Yorkshire dialect.
The winners of the General Knowledge quiz were husband and wife team Sue and Jonny Johnson while the Chocolate and Sweet quiz was won collectively by Vicki Hearsey, Laura Pearce, Alec Small and Bernard Wright. Kate Wright had made arrangements for the annual dinner which is a carvery to be held at the Turnor Arms, Wragby on 9th March and names are needed of those who would like to join the party and schedules for the Spring Show to be held on Saturday March 24 were available. The volunteers to form the Barkwith team for the annual three way quiz with Market Rasen and Woodhall Spa Gardenersto were Sheila Minns, Kate Wright and Laura Pearce.
It is to be held on Friday March 30 with the hosts this year the Market Rasen Gardening Club. All enjoyed the food and fun together with a glass of wine or soft drink as reminders were given of the outing to Hopton Hall to see the snowdrops and the open garden in aid of the St Mary’s Church Tower Fund on Friday September 17. Eight new members were welcomed during the evening too making a total of 51 which is a very good start to the new year.
