Fantasy novel Tethers inspired by the Wolds and Mablethorpe
An author’s debut novel, Tethers, is set in Victorian Lincolnshire and begins in The Wolds, where the two central characters are from.
Writer Jack Croxall grew up in and around Lincolnshire and now lives in Nottinghamshire.
The fantasy book features Mablethorpe, The Humber Estuary, the River Trent as well as the fictional villages of Accelsthorpe (based on Theddlethorpe St Helen) and Shraye (situated in The Wolds).
Tethers was recently released via Amazon.co.uk in ebook form. The novel has already entered the Amazon Children’s Historical Fiction Bestseller List, peaking at number nine.
The novel follows teenagers Karl Scheffer and Esther Emerson as they discover an anonymous journal filled with strange passages and bizarre scribblings.
The novel is not yet available in physical form but, if the ebook performs well enough, a paperback release will go ahead with half the author royalties being donated to ME Research UK, a charity that aims to fund biomedical research into ME/CFS; an illness that afflicted the author during the writing of Tethers.
Jack has also recently set up the website Unpopular Science in collaboration with another science writer.
Unpopular Science is a platform for anyone to read and discuss the science stories which failed to make the front pages.
He currently lives with his family and chocolate Labrador, Archie in Winkburn near Southwell.
