Fundraising couple Tony and Ruth Knowles from Sutton on Sea will today (Tuesday, March 18) receive their British Empire Medals.

The couple were highlighted in the 2014 New Years Honours list for their charitable services to Neurological Treatment in East Yorkshire over the past 14 years after their daughter Emma-Jayne died of a brain tumour in 1998, just before her 23rd birthday.

Since the passing of their daughter, the couple have raised over £130,000 for Hull Royal Infirmary’s Neurosurgical Unit where Emma-Jayne was treated through their annual memorial bikeathon which takes places every year, starting off from The Royal Oak Pub, better known as The Splash in Little Cawthorpe, near Louth.

See next week’s Mablethorpe Leader for the full story and the thoughts from this special fundraising couple, which will be out on Wednesday, March 26.
