Fundraising duo Tony and Ruth Knowles from Sutton on Sea have been recognised by the Queen and are included in the 2014 New Year Honours List and will both receive the British Empire Medal (BEM).

The couple have been awarded with this honour for their charitable services to Neurological Treatment in East Yorkshire over the past 14 years after their daughter Emma-Jayne died of a brain tumour in 1998, just before her 23rd birthday.

Since the passing of their daughter, the couple have raised over £130,000 for Hull Royal Infirmary’s Neurosurgical Unit where Emma-Jayne was treated through their annual memorial bikeathon which takes places every year, starting off from The Royal Oak Pub, better known as The Splash in Little Cawthorpe, near Louth.

Send in your messages of congratulations to the couple by emailing, chloe.west@jpress.co.uk.
