Furniture business rises from the ashes
Philip Goslings furniture business P&P Home Stores has risen from the ashes and is now located in the High Street after the former premises was ravaged by a fire last March.
One year on from a fire that gutted a Mablethorpe furniture store, P&P Home Stores has risen from the ashes and is now back in business.
Business owner Philip Gosling received a phone call in March last year that changed his life forever.
A fire had started in the flat above his furniture store which resulted in the premises being completely gutted and half of his stock destroyed, causing over £40,000 worth of damage.
Fortunately for Philip a premises was vacant next door and the owners allowed him to set up shop there temporarily so his business could continue trading.
Philip explained: “It was becoming obvious that the damaged building would not be restored quickly so I made the decision to seek out other possible shop opportunities to continue my business.”
It was then where Philip had discovered that the old HSBC bank in the High Street was vacant and this gave him another decision to make.
Philip added: “Taking on the former HSBC bank in the High Street was a huge decision for me.
“It added on an extra personal investment for me and meant my business had to take a huge step forward in order to cover expenses and overheads.”
It took Philip and his friends only 11 days from getting the keys to opening up for trading and since the business opened up last June, only three months after the fire, the shop has gone from strength to strength.
Philip also said: “At the old shop we had been dealing in new and used furniture, but we stepped up our game with this shop and came up with a whole new look and strategy, supplying quality new furniture at affordable prices.
“I believe local people should be able to shop in their own area and have access to quality furniture and furnishings at reasonable prices.
“Like other businesses in the town, I also want to encourage residents to shop locally and give the smaller shops a chance,” Philip added.
“We have received some great comments from our customers and I am delighted with the response and support the business has gained since we reopened in June.”
