Give East Lindsey District Council your views on spending priorities
East Lindsey District Council is asking people for their views on spending priorities for the 2013/14 financial year.
This financial year (2012/13) the district council has a net revenue budget of £18m to provide a range of services to local people.
This includes services they have to provide and a range of services that we choose to provide in addition.
Services they have to provide by law:
Refuse collection and recycling (green waste collection is not mandatory)
Street Cleaning
Planning services
Elections and Elected Member services
Homelessness
Housing Advice
Building Control
Housing and Council Tax Benefit
Community Safety (working in partnership to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and reduce re-offending)
Food Safety and Water Sampling
Environmental Health, Health and Safety and Licensing
Additional discretionary services they choose to provide:
Economic Development
Car Parking
Council Markets
Sport and Leisure Facilities
Health, Arts and Event activities
Kingfisher Caravan Park
Public Toilets
Parks and Gardens
Grants
Tourism promotion
Local customer contact centres
Green Waste Collection
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
71 per cent of the money the council has to provide these services comes directly from Central Government and 29 per cent is raised locally through Council Tax.
East Lindsey District Council and many other Local Authorities face significant budget pressures.
For the past two years the council has needed to make savings totalling £4.85m due to reductions in Government funding and increased costs associated with the services it provides, such as fuel for vehicles.
In 2013/14 the Council expects to need to make a further saving of £1.2m from its £18m budget.
Until November 23, local people can tell the Council their service priorities as part of a District-wide consultation.
