VISITORS to Mablethorpe’s weekly market had the opportunity to go the distance and raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support last week.
Twenty energetic members of the public each participated in a ten minute cycle ride on an exercise bike to help the team from the Station Sports Centre to reach their target of covering a total distance of 40 miles.
This was undertaken on a standstill bicycle, completing the distance equivalent to the old Mablethorpe train loop.
The event took place on Thursday, September 27 and was organised by staff at the sports centre.
Melissa Jacklin, business development officer for East Lindsey District Council, told the Leader: “The day was a great success.
“Between the team and the participating public, the 40 mile Mablethorpe loop was easily completed.”
Thanks to all the participants on the day, the team raised a fantastic £100.10p which will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Everyone who took part in the cycling had been automatically entered into a lucky dip which included the chance of winning a three month fitness membership at the centre, one week fitness passes or a fitness towel.
Melissa continued: “This was something that the Station Sports Centre wanted to do, raising funds for a very worthy cause.
“All leisure sites will also be participating in a fancy dress bikeathon for Children in Need in November, so watch this space.
“The Station Sports Centre would also like to thank everyone who came down to the event, took part in the bicycle ride and to the many people who donated to this great cause.”
