Linda Knowles, wife of local Coun Terry Knowles is cyclying from Manby to Skegness to raise funds for her four-year-son grandson Freddie to be able to go to Disneyland before he is wheelchair bound for the rest of his life.

The wife of a local councillor is cycling from Grimoldby to Skegness to raise funds for her grandson before he is wheelchair bound for life.

Linda Knowles, wife of well-known District Coun Terry Knowles, who oversees the Grimoldby Ward, will be cycling the 30 miles from Tinklestreet in Grimoldby to the Clock Tower in Skegness from 10am on Thursday, May 1.

Six months ago Linda’s grandson Freddie was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which is a serious condition that causes progressive muscle weakness.

With there currently being no cure for this type of condition, Freddie could be wheelchair bound for life by the time he reaches the age of nine.

Linda explained: “I am determined to complete this challenge for my grandson and raise as much money as I can whilst doing it.

“With having a bad back, high stints of walking is difficult for me, but as I have been training for the last few weeks daily on my bike, I am really enjoying every second of cycling, and as each day passes and I am cycling further and further.

“Thanks to taking on this challenge, it has spurred me on to continue cycling once this cycle ride is over.

“But I am doing this for my grandson. We really want to help him go on this trip to Disneyland in America now whilst he is still able to go before this condition takes over his life.”

Linda will be cycling via Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea and will be collecting donations along the way.

Linda added: “I am aiming to cycle to Mablethorpe before receiving a quick refreshment stop at The Dunes Complex in Mablethorpe and a possible stop in Sutton on Sea as-well before the final stint to Skegness.

“My aim is just to tackle the ride head on, go nice and steady and pace myself accordingly. “

If you see Linda flying past you on her bike, why not donate a little something to heartfelt cause to help Freddie get to Disneyland.

If you are not around at the time that Linda’s cycle ride is taking place but still wish to donate towards the cause, there are a number of local businesses who will be accepting donations towards Linda’s cycle ride.

Donations can be taken to Manby Post office, Watts Garage, Londis Shop, The Lancaster Inn and Bambarino’s Retaurant in Grimoldby.
