Jude Martin helped raise over 1,000 for Wish Upon a Star by having her head shaved. She is pictured handing over the cash to Joanne Heywood, area manager for the charity, at the Esso garage in Louth.

Raising over £1,000 for charity proved not to be a close shave for staff at Louth’s Esso garage.

Sales assistant Jude Martin took the biggest plunge, raising over £700 after having her hair lopped off for children’s charity When You Wish Upon A Star.

After proceeds from other events held in the garage were totted up, a grand total of £1,042.62 was handed over to the charity’s area manager Joanne Heywood.

Jude, of Manby, saw her shoulder length brown locks disappear in just an hour.

She said: “It feels very cold now, but I’m actually quite pleased with how it looks.

“I had the star added in to represent the charity. It’s a big thanks to everyone who sponsored me and Jo Freshney of Alford who cut my hair.”

Receiving the money, Joanne said it would make a huge difference to the cause.

“Fundraising doesn’t come easily nowadays, we’re very grateful to the Esso team for their hard work,” she said.

Jude said she probably wouldn’t be keeping her new look and hoped to have her usual hair length back by March.
