A proposal has been made that a memorial plaque be added to Mablethorpe’s memorial rock, naming those that were lost in the 1953 East Coast floods in Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea.

The names listed by the Louth coroner at the time are: Thelma Bradburn; (staying in Mablethorpe), Anna Clarke, Leon Clarke, Eliza Davy, Samuel Davy, Doris Fixter and Barbara Thomas (all from Mablethorpe), James Harrington, (staying in Mablethorpe), Susan Miller and Joseph Winters (both from Trusthorpe), Mable Bagshaw, Mary Burden, Emily Meanwell, Fanny Robinson and Stephen Spencer (all from Sutton on Sea) and Winifred Usher (staying in Sutton).

Concern has been expressed to the Town Council there may be relatives living of some that would not wish their relative’s name to be included, if so the Town Council wish to honour it.

The Town Council would like to give relatives the opportunity to voice any concerns they may have prior to the plaque being placed and invite any interested party to call the Town Clerk on 01507 329172 or email: mablethorpetc@btconnect.com.
