Hearing aid patients to check their batteries

People in the Louth area who use hearing aids are being urged to check their batteries.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has recently issued a medical device alert dealing with ZeniPower mercury-free hearing aid batteries, manufactured by Zhuhai Zhi Li battery Co Ltd.

They have advised such batteries with a best before date of 08-2018 and 09-2018 documented on the outer blister packaging should not be used.

Anyone using these batteries within their hearing aid should attend their nearest healthcare provider to obtain replacement batteries.

Gavin Cogley, head of medical engineering at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We consider the risk of patients in the local area having these batteries is low.

This type of battery has not been stocked within our audiology department but there is a small risk that some patients attending Louth audiology clinics or department may have been issued with these batteries. If in doubt, please obtain replacement batteries from your local service.”
