There was a heavy police presence in Alford yesterday evening after an anonymous call was made alleging that a person had a firearm. The incident has since been discovered to be a hoax.
The anonymous call to Lincolnshire Police was made at around 6.30pm yesterday evening (Wednesday March 26).
As routine procedure, a firearms response was initiated and police attended an address in South Street in Alford. After the police had spoken with the occupants and searched the property, it became apparent that it was a hoax call.
Enquiries are ongoing, and police intend to prosecute the hoax caller.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: “We take hoax calls very seriously, as it is a criminal offence.
“Hoax calls have a big impact on our resources, and a big impact on communities. We will always prosecute hoax callers if we find out who they are”.
