Joyce is the new Mayor of Mablethorpe

This will be Councillor Joyce Taylor’s second time in the mayoral chains after previously taking on the role during 2012/13.

She was unanimously voted in by her fellow councillors at the Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea Town Council meeting held last week, with new Councillor Tony Mee getting the honour of being the town’s deputy mayor.

Coun Keith Pinion nominated Joyce for the mayoral role and said: “Joyce has been a councillor for many years and puts this town at the forefront of what she does - even before her own health.

“She always gives 110 per cent and she will make this town proud.”

After being in office during a year of great excitement following the London 2012 Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, this next mayoral year will have a lot of live up to for Coun Taylor.

But when the Leader asked her what she was looking forward to the most this year, she quickly responded saying that ‘she couldn’t wait to help bring back secondary education into Mablethorpe.’

“Education has always been a matter that is very close to my heart,” said Coun Taylor.

“That is why I want to help raise funds for the Coastal Free School Project. It will be one of my Mayoral Charities of the year.

“The other will be The Tuesday Club, which gets older people that may be lonely or have no family nearby out of the house and taken out for the day on various trips and excursions. They also provide weekly lunches for them as well and I think the work that group does is fantastic.”

She added: “I am extremely honoured to be elected as the town’s mayor and I am pleased and proud to accept the role and I will promote my parish to the best of my ability.”

Coun Taylor, takes on the chains of office from outgoing mayor, Coun Graham Cullen, who made quite the impression during his year .

She said: “On behalf of the town council, I would like to express a vote of thanks to the outgoing mayor, Graham Cullen who has made his mark on the town. There is no-one like him and he has proved to be a very popular mayor during the last year.”

He explained jokingly during that council meeting, that if Coun Taylor wanted to fill his shoes, then she would need to dance up and down the seafront in order to compete.

Coun Cullen thanked his fellow councillors for all their support during his mayoral year and said ‘he couldn’t have wished for a better year.’
