June cooks up victory in top cake making contest
June Brett with Chairman of Judges, Brian Taylor, at the Cake International Awards.
A Trusthorpe cake maker came out on top with an International Gold Award in a major cake competition.
June Brett only launched her Trusthorpe-based business, Lady B’s Cupcakery, in December last year just six months after baking her first cake for her daughter’s birthday.
And despite having next to no formal training on cake making, her competitors couldn’t stop her scooping the award last week for her wedding cake entry in the Cake International Competition at the NEC in Birmingham.
The cake making event is the biggest of its kind in the world, this year attracting well over 500 competitors for an array of cake baking disciplines.
June’s category had over 130 entries and she was one of only eight winners to receive gold in that category.
June works from her home in Trusthorpe to fulfil the many cake orders for her business.
June’s entry is also set to go stateside, one of the chef’s whose ingredients helped her get the win wants to use her cake and success to promote his own products in the USA.
