Kenya trip fundraiser nets £2,087 thanks to Greyhound and local businesses
A FUNDRAISING night at the Greyhound raised £2,087 towards Jak Bakewell making a charity trip to Kenya.
Jak, owner of Re-Invention hair salon in Upgate, will work in a clinic with HIV/AIDS patients on his trip.
He said: “About 60 people bought tickets and Paul Tipper from the Greyhound very generously shut the restaurant for the night and put food and wine out for free as his donation.
“The main reason for the night was to raise funds for me to take out with me so I can assess what is needed and buy it whilst out there so that all the money goes directly to source rather than being lost in the charity’s admin.
“I will be living with a family in a very rural area and will also visit IDP camps to give out food and treatment.”
Prizes for the night were kindly donated by - Re-Invention hair salon, Sebastian professional, GHD, Carlsberg UK, Elysium, Damselfly, Kenwick heath club, Thorntons, Colin Thompson fisheries, Pilgrim food service and the Cheese Shop.
