Two older dogs have been found happy new homes by the Ark Animal Rescue and Retirement Home in North Somercotes in time for Christmas.

King was a 13-year-old German shepherd who arrived at the Ark in September when his owner had to move into residential accommodation.

His new owners travelled for over two hours to meet and introduce King to their two German shepherds.

They all got on fantastically and, once the necessary checks were complete, he was on his way to his new home.

Another older boy to be rehomed was Ben the 12-year-old staffy.

He originally came to the Ark as an emergency boarder when his owner was rushed into hospital.

Unfortunately, due to her health, she was unable to return home and so poor Ben was left homeless.

But it did not take long for a lovely lady to offerhim a home for his remaining years.

However according to the Ark’s latest monthly report: “For every animal that leaves the Ark there are, unfortunately, always more that arrive.

“Two such are two Westies, Angus and Robbie. They are 16 and 15-years-old who are with us owing to the death of their owner.

“Both lovely gentlemen whose only issue was the need for dentals, with that now complete they are settling in just fine whilst they await their rehome.”

The monhly report also said: “Thank you so much to all those who have supported us through our 29th year!

“With over 500 animals rehomed we really could not have done it without the help of every single supporter.

“As always donations are greatly appreciated and all go towards ensuring that each residents’ stay is as comfortable and happy as can be.

“We are always extremely happy in finding any animal its forever home, but there is something very rewarding in finding this home during winter, especially when they are in their later years.”
